Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 from 1936 to August 17 2015) was an American dancer, actress and choreographer. She is best remembered for her role in Batman's 1960s TV series Batman and Marta the Orion slave with green skin, in the Star Trek 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes for television." Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School as well as W. H. Adamson High School. However, she was not able to graduate as she did not receive "one credits for PE". Craig was accepted into Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the role of the youngest dancer in the corps de ballerina, after being recognized by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and teacher. It was an amazing experience that allowed her to do stunts in the role of Batgirl. She quit the ballet company in the year 1957 "over a disagreement on casting decisions" and moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career. However, she found herself acting in films. The first time she was seen was in a TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") along with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. Then, she appeared in three films--The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959)--and also guest-starred in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig appeared with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as in Seven Women from Hell (1961) featured alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as an actor in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Happened in the World's Fair (1963), as well as Kissin Cousins (1964).
