Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29 September 1931-11 January 2015) was an actress from Sweden, popular for her gorgeous figure and beauty. The role she played as Sylvia, in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) has made her a household name. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th of September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita worked as fashion model in her teenage years. As per the requests by her mother, Ekberg participated in Miss Malmo in 1950. It resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not speaking much English and a little Swedish, she traveled to the United States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant at that time, the pageant became official in 1952). Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe pageant. However she was one of six Finalists. Universal Studios offered her a starlet contract. Ekberg was a Universal starlet, where she was taught the art of elocution, drama and dance. The film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as a woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
