Padma Lakshmi Bio
Padma Parvati Lakshmi was born on September 1, 1970, in Chennai, India. Lakshmi was divorced by her parents when she was 2. To avoid the stigma associated with divorce in India her mother emigrated to the United States. Lakshmi was with her grandparents from Chennai two years before moving to the United States. Both of her parents divorced later, and she now has a younger half brother and a half-sister from her father. Lakshmi who's name is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity and success, was born in New York. She then grew up with her mother and stepfather in Los Angeles. Every year, she traveled to India to visit relatives for a few more months. Padma Lakshmi started acting in 1999. The first film she appeared in was "Figlio di Sandokan" which was a film about the life of an Italian pirate.
